Posted on December 5, 2009 at 1:24 pm
One of the quickest and most affordable ways to insulate your home is to dress your windows with thermal or insulated curtains. But… isn’t it boring – Thermal Curtains ? Sounds like something industrial. As for me, when I first time heard about this window dressing, I imagined dull heavy drapes hanged on my windows, transforming the home into an awful place, where I don’t want to live anymore. I was so mistaken! Thermal Curtai ns can be really beautiful, suitable for any home, and there are so many variations of them!

You dress your windows with Thermal Curtains and along with a fine-looking window treatment you get an additional comfort of warmth in cool weather and cooling in hot summer days. And all this without additional money, spending on air conditioning!

Many people think that insulated curtains only keep the warmth in the room. If you also think so, you will be surprised. Thermal Curtains have many others advantages: they provide a nice coolness in the room in hot weather, they can reduce noise that comes outside, and in addition, many of them have blackout feature, which is really great for a bedroom, a nursery or a home theater.

So what are actually Thermal Curtains ? They are just regular curtains, but with one difference: they are made of fabric that has foam thermal backing. There are various fabrics for such curtains, but most common are cotton, polyester and a blend of them. This blend allows easy cleaning – curtains are machine washable. Thermal drapes come in so many colors and styles that you have a lot of choices and can easily find a thermal window dressing that suits the style and the color scheme of your interior. The additional advantage of them is its really affordable price.

Another type of insulated window treatment is curtains with insulated liner. Such liner provide the same functions as a thermal backing: reduces noise coming outside, keep warmth or coolness depending on weather and also blocks extra sunlight. You can shop for insulated curtains or make them by yourself if you like do-it-yourself projects and know how to sew.

Choosing Draperies as Window Treatment for Your Tampa Home

Posted on November 30, 2009 at 8:20 am
Draperies, like curtains, are among the most common choices for window treatment in the interior design of Tampa homes. While curtains are unlined and more informal, draperies are much dressier and preferred by Tampa decorators when creating a more elegant look. Furthermore, you can add thermal lining to your draperies to block out heat.

There are various styles of draperies.

Draw draperies are hung on a traverse rod and can be center drawn or one-way drawn. Center drawn draperies are closed from the sides to the center while one-way drawn draperies are pulled across from one side. These may be hand drawn or could use pull cords or a baton. They may come in single panels or may have over draperies in more intricate styles.

Pinch pleats have small pleats in intervals at the head of the panels. The name comes from the fact that the pleats look like they have been pinched and sewn on the fabric. The spacing determines the fullness of the drapery.

Pencil pleats are thin elongated pleats that are sewn very close together on stationary drapery panels.

Goblet pleats are like extra large pinch pleats, but they are gathered four inches from the top to form a goblet-like opening at the head of the drapery. To enhance the look, the top of each pleat is kept rounded by stuffing the space with tissue or batting.

Sometimes, the pleats are done horizontally at the head of drapery, using contrasting or complementary fabric.

Folded cuffs take advantage of the drapery lining. Contrasting or complementary material is used and displayed through cuffs folded out at the drapery head. Sometimes this is done over pencil pleats. Sometimes, the cuffs are folded out between hooks, creating scallop-like effects.

A more formal variation is the sewn-in valance look. A valance is an over drapery hung over panels of draperies. This look can be simulated with the valance sewn into the panels. This is usually made of contrasting or complementary material but the style of the over drape is more complicated than a cuff.

Box pleats are pleats that are sewn in reverse, with the pinched parts of the fabric hidden at the back and displaying the seams in front. These are sometimes highlighted with buttons covered in the same fabric.

Most draperies are hung on special hooks but pegs or curtain rods may be used, as well.

Flat panels could also be hung or tied directly on pegs or hooks above a window. Although lined drapery material is used, the style is more informal and casual.

Also very informal and casual are tab top heads. These have vertical tabs at the head through which the rod is interested. It can be made dressier using rich fabric and decorated with elegant ribbons and buttons.

Rod pocket ruffles are commonly used for curtains but can also be used for draperies. This is the usual style where a pocket is sewn at the head of the panel through which the rod is inserted. The panel can be shirred on the rod itself.

For the bedroom, you might want to consider matching your bedding to your drapery. Get matching fabrics from your Tampa supplier and instantly dress up your inner sanctuary.

You don’t have to limit yourself to draperies and curtains for your Tampa interior design, though. Tampa homeowners have other options for window treatments, as well, such as shutters, blinds and shades, including solar shades. Just make sure you get the best quality from the most reliable brands, such as Hunter Douglas. Tampa window treatment specialists can help you make the right choice and you can use various treatments and styles for different rooms in your home.

Need Curtains For You Indianapolis in Real Estate?

Posted on July 5, 2009 at 3:38 am
pg" title='' alt='' />
Nowadays, having more homes available for sale has turned Indianapolis real estate into a buyer’s market. It is very evident in the city of Indianapolis. There has been an increase of jobs here and an increase of new homes available with construction from local builders. The home market in Central Indiana continues to expand. If you want to make your home more attractive to the current real estate market, then a simple task such as window dressing can help to add value.

You will need to measure your windows in your home. With Indianapolis real estate, there is a varied size window. You need to ensure that you are purchasing something that is the correct size. It can’t be too small or too large for it to hang from your curtains. There should be a few inches past the total area of the window size in order for this to fit properly.

You will need to make room for the curtain rods. As you’re looking at Indianapolis real estate, you might see that the new homes have windows that are close to the ceiling. This helps to bring in plenty of light. If you are looking from the outside, that’s fine. However, if you need to hang a curtain, it’s a different story. You need to have at least 6 inches between the ceiling and the window in order for the curtain rods to be installed properly. Even though they may look like they fit, you will still need to use a tool in order to make room.

The weight of the material is important when you are doing this. Since there is a variance with choices of Indianapolis real estate, you may have a home that has different colors and materials. The curtains should blend in with the walls in color and texture. Make sure that the carpets match the walls and check the material of your carpets prior to choosing your curtains.

You will need to find out what type of curtain rod that will be installed. There are different types such as wood, plastic or metal. The rod type is important when factoring in how large or small your curtains are and how much they weight. Will there be pets playing near your curtains and will your curtains be securely connected to the wall? Your Indianapolis real estate purchase will benefit from having curtains, however, they should not drag or have an excess on the floor.

You may want to take a look at thermal curtains. Even though thin curtains or ones that are made of silk look nice, they do not insulate your home well. If you have curtains like that, you can install Thermal Curtains underneath them. This will help to bring out the beauty of your Indianapolis real estate property without wasting heat.

Do what you think is right with your home and windows. Even the smallest tasks can make or break a home. There are a lot of choices with the Indianapolis real estate market. While you may not see it now, whatever you decide to install can mean the different between a yes or no on signing day.
